This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to operate, inspect and monitor ash and dust disposal plant associated with a coal fired power station.
Power generation facilities produce waste that must either be removed, recycled or stored. Ash and dust, produced from coal power generation must be disposed of using an established ash and dust handling system.
Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan work, operate ash and dust disposal plant, test ash and dust disposal plant operation, respond to abnormal ash and dust disposal plant operation, monitor and inspect ash and dust disposal plant and complete all documentation. Individuals will, in general, work under supervision, in a power generation facility as an operator.
Power generation plant operators are typically trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work.
